Tributes continue to pour in for late gender activist and researcher, Dr Renee Thompson.
Parliament’s presiding officers have expressed their heartfelt condolences to her family, describing Thompson as a respected intellectual and longtime friend of the institution.
She passed away on Monday, just a week after earning her PhD from Stellenbosch University.
Parliament spokesperson Moloto Mothapo said Thompson was actively involved in parliamentary programmes and remained strongly committed to constitutionalism and democratic accountability.
“Over the years, Dr Thompson has participated in various programmes and activities of Parliament, and her thoughts and views have helped in those forums and in the public discourse to shape the work of the institution. She was not just a stakeholder but a faithful activist contributor to the processes of the institution.”
Thompson also served within the African National Congress (ANC) caucus, contributing her expertise in research, communication, and legislative drafting.
