Dumisani Khumalo tells MPs he was targeted by misinformation over anti-corruption decisions

Head of crime intelligence Dumisani Khumalo has told Parliament’s police ad hoc committee that he was the target of well-orchestrated misinformation campaigns because of his decisions.
Khumalo said some of his decisions, like identifying ghost employees within crime intelligence, were met with resistance by those benefitting from the fraud and corruption.
He was giving evidence to the parliamentary ad hoc committee investigating allegations of police corruption made by KZN provincial commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.

Dumisani Khumalo took MP's through some of his decisions at the head of crime intelligence that managed to ruffle a few feathers in the unit.
He said his decisions like the recalling of all state-owned vehicles from officials were not well received.
"The misinformation campaign started in social and print media related to each and every decision," said Khumalo.

He said some of the ghost employees he uncovered had not worked a single day in decades, but he was still a victim of misinformation.
"There are people that we had unearthed that were holding ranks up to full colonel who have never worked for the past 15 to 20 years," said Khumalo.
On the political killings task team disbandment, Khumalo also added its establishment is the prerogative of the national commissioner and the inter ministerial task team never supported its disbanding.
