Water and Sanitation Minister Pemmy Majodina is expected to visit Knysna this weekend to assess the town’s escalating water crisis.

Knysna’s water supply system has reached a critical stage. The Akkerkloof Dam, the municipality’s primary water storage facility, is currently sitting at just 15% capacity. This translates to an estimated 10 days of usable water at current consumption levels.

Minister Majodina’s visit comes amid growing concern from residents, businesses, and local authorities, as prolonged dry conditions continue to place pressure on the Garden Route town’s limited resources.

During the visit, Majodina is expected to meet with municipal officials to evaluate existing interventions and explore both short-term relief measures and longer-term solutions to stabilise the water supply.

Western Cape Water and Sanitation head, Ntombizanele Bila-Mupariwa, confirmed the Minister's itinerary:

"During the visit, the Minister will inspect key technical sites that include the Akkerkloof Dam as well as the selected borehole installations."
