The case stems from a 2018 rally in Mdantsane, where the EFF leader was seen in video footage firing shots into the air in front of thousands of people.
On Thursday night, the EFF held a night vigil and marched through the streets of East London in support of their leader.
From a two-hour-long march to a night vigil on the streets of East London, EFF supporters came out in their numbers to stand by their leader.
Simon Khadambi, an EFF supporter who travelled all the way from Limpopo, believes the country can’t afford to lose Malema to what he believes is a politically motivated case.
“We really need Julius Malema. He’s the only one who can bring peace. He will soon liberate us from the ANC [African National Congress] government, which has thrown our children into poverty.”
Another supporter echoed similar sentiments.
“Malema needs to be the head of state. I want him to be in charge of my children’s future. We’re here to support him because he fights for our freedom.”
Malema believes that he’s being targeted, and this case is being used to silence his political views.
