Members of Parliament (MPs) are still gunning for Paul O’Sullivan, who continues to frustrate Parliament’s ad hoc committee investigating police corruption and political interference.

The committee now wants O’Sullivan, a forensic investigator, to be subpoenaed to appear after he refused to give evidence in person, citing safety concerns.

The committee reorganised its schedule this week to hear several submissions implicating him in police interference, as well as his links to the former Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) head, Robert McBride. O’Sullivan was set to appear before the committee this week, but he still refuses to appear physically.

He said he fears for his safety and also told the committee that he was out of the country.

Committee member Sibonelo Nomvalo said they are only left with two weeks to complete the hearings and O’Sullivan is delaying proceedings.

"The last position we took is that Paul O’Sullivan must be subpoenaed. So I don’t know if that is happening or it’s not happening."

MK Party MP David Skosana said the committee is running out of time, and O’Sullivan must be forced to appear.

"All the witnesses were here. He must appear here. If he doesn’t want to appear, let’s do everything in the book to have him here."

Committee Chairperson Soviet Lekganyane said the legal team is working on the matter and will report to the committee on the way forward.
