The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Gauteng said it won’t be used as a pawn in the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF)’s fight with the African National Congress (ANC).
This follows recent remarks by EFF leader Julius Malema that the red berets were willing to vote out all ANC mayors should a motion of no confidence be brought against them.

The DA said it neither supports nor endorses this.
The ANC and EFF are coalition partners in all three of Gauteng’s metros.
However, their relationship is on the verge of breakdown due to jostling for positions.
DA Gauteng leader Solly Msimanga said the party has already been lobbied to pick a side between the ANC and EFF.
“We are saying that we don’t want to be part of those games. Where people are saying we will use the DA to get what we want from the partners we have. Where ‘if you don’t vote for us, we will vote for the DA.’ That’s why I said to our caucuses, you not putting up a name and you not giving anybody your support.”
With less than ten months until the end of this political administration, Msimanga said the DA’s focus is on winning the elections and establishing a new government.
