Firefighters are currently busy with mop-up operations in the Piket-Bo-Berg area, where a wildfire has been raging for the past ten days.

West Coast Fire and Rescue Services spokesperson, Heinrich Robertson confirmed that while no active fire lines remain, the terrain proved hazardous during the final stages of the operation. Robertson noted that a firefighting vehicle lost traction while navigating difficult terrain and overturned; however, no firefighters were injured in the incident.

Robertson stated that the situation has stabilised significantly thanks to the persistent efforts of ground crews.

"It's been ten days of intense firefighting in the broader Piket-Bo-Berg area. At this stage, there are no active fire lines. The fire has been extinguished and ground teams currently on site are busy with mopping up operations."

Favourable weather conditions today played a significant role in supporting the firefighting teams, allowing them to gain the upper hand. If conditions remain stable, the incident is expected to reach a full conclusion by this evening.

"If there are no flare-ups or any fire lines reigniting by late this afternoon, the fire will officially be classified as under control and extinguished, and all ground teams will be withdrawn," Robertson said.
