State opposes bail for man accused of killing UKZN student

The State has opposed bail in the murder case of a University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) student killed allegedly by her boyfriend.
Themba Xaba (23) will return to the Umlazi Magistrates Court to apply for bail on Monday.
He was nabbed in December 2025 after Zinhle Mchunu's body was found stuffed in a suitcase and buried in a house the accused was renting.
National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Natasha Ramkisson-Kara said prosecutors want the accused to be remanded in custody.
“The matter returns to the Umlazi Magistrates Court for bail today [Monday]. The accused is charged with murder. The State is opposed to bail.”
