The Springs Magistrates Court has handed a life prison sentence to a 39-year-old woman who stabbed her partner to death after discovering he had another girlfriend.
In June 2024, Nomsimbuluko Majola stabbed and killed 39-year-old Mojalefa Sefali with the help of a male accomplice.
The incident happened at the victim’s home in Springs, in the City of Ekurhuleni.
In June 2024, Majola and a male accomplice visited her then partner, Sefali, at his home.
The three of them began drinking alcohol and then when the deceased was said to be drunk, Majola asked her accomplice to hold Sefali down then she began stabbing him.
Majola used a pair of scissors and a kitchen knife, stabbing him all over his body.
They left the victim in his home, where he was discovered the following day by his neighbours.
Upon her arrest in the following days, Majola said she was jealous when she discovered her boyfriend had another girlfriend.
The magistrate in the court said Majola did not show any remorse and that the offence formed part of a broader context of gender-based violence (GBV), a phenomenon that has since been declared a national disaster in South Africa.
