Joburg Water has confirmed that a strike by some of its workers over unpaid bonuses has come to an end.

The protest action — led by workers affiliated to the South African Municipal Workers Union (SAMWU) — entered its second day on Tuesday and was deemed unprotected.

Following engagements between Joburg Water management and SAMWU leadership, an agreement was reached for employees to return to work.

The industrial action comes at a sensitive time, with water supply interruptions and repair work already affecting parts of the metro, including Midrand and surrounding areas.

Joburg Water says restoring services remains a priority.

Spokesperson Nombuso Mbuza said, "Johannesburg Water wishes to apologise to residents, businesses, and all communities across the city for the inconvenience caused over the course of the strike."
