A serial robber from Worcester is facing a lengthy jail time after being handed a twenty-year sentence for committing various crimes in the area.

The Worcester Regional Court handed Xolani Mthethwa the hefty sentence on Thursday after he was convicted on two counts of robbery with aggravating circumstances.

National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila said evidence showed Mthethwa robbed a 15-year-old boy of his cellphone before stabbing him in the stomach in March 2022.

Ntabazalila said Mthethwa was arrested four months later after robbing his cousin of her cellphone.

"The NPA welcomes the sentence as the accused targeted the most vulnerable in the community of Zwelethemba, where he committed his crimes with impunity," said Ntabazalila.
