A Cape Town cop killer will effectively be serving life behind bars after being convicted and sentenced for four murders.
27-year-old Craig Amon was handed four life sentences in the Western Cape High Court after being convicted of four murders, including that of a police constable.
Evidence presented to the court showed Amon shot and killed three men on 27 August 2017 during an attempted robbery in Berio Street, Delft.
In a separate incident on 3 June 2020, also in Delft, Amon stabbed and critically wounded an off-duty constable.
Amon was also found guilty of the murder of a police constable in the same area on 19 March 2021.
Hawks spokesperson Zinzi Hani said Hawks head Mathipa Makgato welcomed the sentence.
"He further cautioned those who attack police officials to say that the attack of the police is an attack to the state and we will leave no stone unturned to bring the perpetrators to book."
