Western Cape police says they're concerned about a video on social media that shows what appears to be a police officer stealing money during a raid.

In the four-minute-long video, which is time-stamped 20 February 2026, the officer is seen in the room of a residence that is being raided by cops.

A CCT camera captured the officer pocketing what appears to be a wad of cash and other items from the room.

Police spokesperson Frederick van Wyk said the area where the incident happened and the identity of the officer are subject to an investigation.

"We want the person who issued the video clip to come forward and open a criminal case for investigation. We encourage anyone who witnesses corruption taking place to report it to SAPS immediately."

Police said they want to send a stern warning to corrupt officials that criminality within their ranks cannot be tolerated.

"The management of the SAPS views the unbecoming behaviour of the said member in a very serious light. Saps will not hesitate to act against their own when found to be on the wrong side of the law."

IPID has not yet indicated whether the incident was reported to their office for investigation.
