Peters has been criminally charged for allegedly contravening a section of the Criminal Procedure Act that prohibits identifying an accused of sexual offence matters before they plead.

Supporters have gathered outside the Western Cape High Court under the theme “Name Him” to back Callas Foundation founder Caroline Peters.

Peters has been criminally charged for allegedly contravening a section of the Criminal Procedure Act that prohibits identifying an accused of sexual offence matters before they plead.

The Women’s Legal Centre is also challenging provisions of the Act that criminalise a complainant for identifying themself.

Peters said the law works against victims of sexual violence.

“An interim harassment order was granted against me - it was very scary - and so this is silencing survivors of sexual violence, this is not protecting survivors of sexual violence.”
