Minister in the Presidency for Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities, Sindisiwe Chikunga, will lead South Africa’s delegation to the 70th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW70) at United Nations headquarters in New York City, starting on Monday.

The session will center on global progress toward gender equality and address difficulties that limit women and girls’ access to justice, economic opportunities, and safety.

Chikunga says South Africa’s participation reaffirms its commitment to advancing gender equality and aligning with global frameworks, such as the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

"At CSW70, South Africa will advocate for the promotion of multilateralism, stronger accountability, greater investment in women's empowerment, increased access to justice for women and girls, and the meaningful inclusion of young, rural-based, and disabled women in decision-making, especially previously disadvantaged women."
