The 41-year-old has been living in Cape Town for the past 16 years and working as a personal trainer.

Last week, Stamenov’s attempt to have his arrest declared unlawful was dismissed by the court.

His lawyer, William Booth, argued that the Interpol red notice did not constitute a valid arrest warrant.

However, the court rejected this argument, finding sufficient evidence that Stamenov committed an extraditable offence in Romania.

The court also ruled that there are grounds for his continued detention as extradition proceedings move forward.

Booth maintains that there is no reason his client should not be granted bail.
