Fire engulfs historic Botha Sigcau building in Mthatha

The historic Botha Sigcau Building in central Mthatha, in the Eastern Cape caught fire on Tuesday night.

Large parts of the structure were ravaged by the inferno.

Although it is not yet clear what caused the blaze, EWN received official confirmation from multiple sources.

Provincial police spokesperson Nobuntu Gantana said investigators were still gathering information.

Mthatha Fire Services has dispatched firefighters to battle the inferno.

Meanwhile, the provincial government said the Department of Public Works had been assigned to the matter and would soon provide official comment.
