With Easter on the horizon, the KwaZulu-Natal Transport Department has launched its road safety campaign for the period.

Mandy Wiener interviewed department spokesperson, Ndabezinhle Sibiya.

He said close to 3 500 law enforcement officers will be deployed throughout the province. They want to ensure the visibility of law enforcement.

Officials also plan on naming and shaming some of the motorists caught breaking the law.

Sibiya said they are focusing on drunk and reckless driving.

Since the province launched Operation #NenzaniLaEzweni in August last year, more than 5 000 drivers have been arrested for drunk driving alone. They also saw an 18 percent decrease in fatalities over the festive season.

This coming holiday, the department's efforts to improve truck safety will be intensified.
