A planned taxi shutdown in Limpopo has been called off, with the South African National Taxi Council (SANTACO) confirming that all services will operate as normal on Wednesday morning.

The taxi council’s Capricorn region had initially proposed the stoppage, with notices circulating on social media, but the organisation has now formally rescinded all prior communications related to the planned action.

The Capricorn region is home to thousands of commuters who rely heavily on taxi services as their primary mode of transport, with any disruption directly impacting access to work, schools and essential services.

Had the tools-down gone ahead, communities across the region would have faced a day of significant disruption, particularly those in outlying areas where alternative transport options are limited or non-existent.

SANTACO said regional leadership remains committed to resolving outstanding concerns through lawful and constructive channels, with regional committees urged to continue consultations with members and explore alternatives that support both service delivery and worker welfare.

All operators, drivers and partners are urged to resume normal duties and uphold the highest standards of safety and professionalism.
