‘The dominoes will fall,’ says strategist after arrest of cops linked to Matlala's tender

A security strategist believes the arrest of 12 officers, who allegedly helped suspected criminal Vusimuzi "Cat" Matlala secure a R360 million tender, will boost confidence in the criminal justice system.

Andy Mashaile said the country is starting to see movement in Madlanga Commission of Inquiry-related cases.

The officials were nabbed on Tuesday night during an operation by the Investigative Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC).

Mashaile said the work of the Madlanga Commission is finally bearing fruit after 12 police officers were nabbed for their alleged involvement in a R360 million tender fraud.

He added that the multiple arrests indicate the depth of the rot in the justice system.

Mashaile said this should serve as a deterrent to other officials who are involved in any form of corruption.

“The dominoes will fall and the cats will collapse. And we have seen with this huge number that it has gone on. I am certain that with the special investigations task team, more officers or more of those people pointed out in the Madlanga Commission will be arrested. I am also assuming based on the testimony led by the [Fannie] Nkosi, we will see some of them being arrested.”

He said this also proves that the commission is yielding positive results.
