Vuyisile Ncata has been appointed the Eastern Cape's new police commissioner, taking over from Nomthetheleli Mene, who retired last year.

National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola made the announcement in Zwelitsha on Tuesday.

Ncata has been promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General as he steps into the role.

With more than three decades of experience, Ncata joined the police service as a student constable in 1995.

His appointment comes amid wider leadership changes in the police service, including the recent appointment of Thabang Lesia as Free State police commissioner and the extension of Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi’s contract as KwaZulu-Natal police chief.
