The Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) is in the process of recruiting more than 70,000 staff members to oversee its upcoming election registration weekend.
With the local government elections likely to take place in November, the first registration drive will take place on 20th and 21st June.
The IEC is revealing its new election logo and tagline at the Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand on Wednesday.
Delivering his opening remarks, CEO Sy Mamabolo emphasised that preparations for the polls are in full swing.
“We are in the process of finalising the recruiting and training of approximately 70,000 of registration staff. This recruitment process has been carefully designed and codified in the electoral recruitment and selection criteria. This criteria was generated after consulting the political liaison committee at the national level.”
At the same time, IEC chairperson Mosotho Moepya said the logo and tagline were designed to attract the youth to vote.
“The logo we are about to unveil is new, fresh and reflects renewal and a progressive direction in our electoral democratic journey. While the symbol may change, the values it represents do not. Our commitment to free and fair elections is perennial.”

While the Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) Minister has yet to announce the date for the municipal elections, the IEC wants to be ready by November.
The current term for all municipal councils is set to end on 2 November 2026.
The law prescribes that local government elections must be held within 90 days of the term’s expiry. While the COGTA minister has yet to announce the official date, the municipal elections must be held between November and February.
