At least 29 motorists have been arrested on Western Cape roads between Thursday and Saturday, during intensified Easter road safety operations.

Of those arrested, 24 were for driving under the influence of alcohol.

On Good Friday, three men were arrested for drunk driving at a roadblock on the R303 near Ceres.

A further three men and one woman were arrested for driving under the influence during separate operations on the R300.

Provincial Mobility MEC Isaac Sileku said that several other drivers were also arrested at roadblocks in Somerset West and Grabouw for possession of fraudulent documents.

Sileku has described the behaviour of some drivers as deeply concerning...

"We are still seeing too many drivers making reckless decisions that put lives at risk, including their passengers. With wet weather on major routes, we urge all road users to slow down, stay alert and make responsible choices."
