Rampant shootings continue on the Cape Flats despite intensified operations involving the army and police to clamp down on gun violence.

Several gun attacks were reported last night in Kalksteenfontein, Wesbank, Delft and Bonteheuwel.

Soldiers have been working alongside the South African Police Service in police-led operations in gang-affected areas of Cape Town since Wednesday.

Police spokesperson Wesley Twigg said that two men and two women were shot and wounded in a gang-related incident in Wesbank.

"According to reports the two male victims were chased by unknown suspects who opened fire on them. The two female victims were caught in the crossfire. The victims were transported to a medical facility for treatment in Kalksteenfontein," said Twigg.

Twigg added that three bystanders were also caught in crossfire between rival gangs at the corner of Jakkalsvlei Avenue and Valhalla Drive...

"Upon arrival on the scene they found three males aged between 15 and 21 who sustained gunshot wounds to their bodies. According to reports the victims were standing on the mentioned corners when gunshots went off. Bishop Lavis detectives are investigating three counts of attempted murder," said Twigg.
