The twins, who were joined at the abdomen, were born at Mankweng hospital in Polokwane in January and were successfully separated nearly three weeks ago.

The Limpopo provincial government said the loss of twin-a has deeply affected staff at Mankweng hospital.

It added that it was necessary for a new team, in a different environment, to take over the ongoing care of the surviving twin.

Limpopo premier Phophi Ramathuba’s spokesperson Thilivhali Muavha said "to this end the baby was airlifted on 04 April 2026. This was done as a precautionary measure. The provincial government remains in close contact with the medical teams and the family and will continue to provide the necessary support during this time".
