The Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) has arrested 44 motorists for driving under the influence of alcohol during a targeted weekend operation across the capital.
The arrests were carried out over the past 48 hours in several key areas, including:
Sinoville
Winternest
Mamelodi
Atteridgeville
Authorities have expressed serious concern over the high number of drivers found under the influence, warning that drunk driving continues to pose a significant risk on city roads.
TMPD spokesperson Puleng Motholo emphasised the department's firm stance on road safety:
“The TMPD maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards individuals who choose to drive while intoxicated. These operations are part of an ongoing effort to combat lawlessness and improve public safety in the City of Tshwane.”
