86-year-old Iain Wares found guilty of sexual assault
Wares has already been convicted in South Africa for indecently assaulting a former pupil at Rondebosch Boys’ Primary School.
The 86-year-old was recently on trial in the Wynberg Magistrates Court for sexually assaulting the boy when he was 12 years old in 1988.
Wares denied the allegations, arguing that he did not remember the complainant and could not have committed the offence.
However, the court found him guilty and postponed sentencing to 13 May 2026.
