A police captain on Thursday presented the Western Cape High Court with evidence that could implicate alleged underworld gang boss Nafiz Modack for attempted murder.

Modack and 14 others face a slew of charges for various crimes related to allegedly operating a criminal enterprise.

The charges include attempted murder for a botched grenade attack on the late Colonel Charl Kinnear in 2018, two years before his eventual murder in 2020.

Barker said Modack used the numbers to contact him in 2018 when he investigated Modack's claims of police corruption.

But before Barker was dismissed, Judge Robert Henney noticed one of the phone numbers looked familiar.

Henney recalled evidence which showed the same number was used in a botched attack on Kinnear in 2018 involving co-accused Yannick Adonis.

Henney said it was the same number "where the address of Colonel Kinnear was sent to Yannick Adonis."

Modack previously denied sending Kinnear's address to Adonis to carry out the attack.
