Suspended sergeant Fannie Nkosi will have to spend another two nights behind bars as judgment on his bail is set to be handed down on Wednesday.
Nkosi returned to the Pretoria North Magistrate's Court on firearms-related cases after seven guns were found at his home during a raid earlier this month.
He’s also been charged with being in possession of dockets, one of which has been missing for 10 years, with prosecutors accusing him of hiding dockets to frustrate police investigations.
When Nkosi entered the dock, he immediately slouched his shoulders, turning his face away from the media while chewing gum.
But magistrate Thandi Theledi immediately reprimanded him, telling him to sit up and making him aware that he cannot chew in court.

During arguments, Nkosi’s lawyer, advocate Siza Dlali, accused the state of making baseless claims.
"There is no evidence that Mr Nkosi will influence the members of the national task team who will testify against him in the main trial."
But the state’s advocate Tholoana Sekhonyana insists there are major risks to allowing Nkosi’s release on bail.
"Some of the offences he is charged with, e.g., defeating the ends of justice, were carefully planned, executed and persisted for a long period. He has shown to have disregard for the rule of law."
Magistrate Theledi asked for two days to consider the evidence.
Judgment has been scheduled for Wednesday.
