Tragedy in Mthatha: One detective killed, another wounded in Ngangelizwe shooting

Eastern Cape police are on the hunt for unknown gunmen who shot and killed one officer and left another wounded in Ngangelizwe, Mthatha.

It is understood that the two detectives from the Mthatha Madeira unit were heading home when the incident occurred.

Police spokesperson Nobuntu Gantana said the motive remains unknown at this stage. However, a formal investigation is currently underway.

The authorities have confirmed that the attack resulted in immediate tragedy.

According to the spokesperson, the male officer died at the scene, while the female officer remains in critical condition in the hospital.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) stated that the names of the officers will be released as soon as the next-of-kin notification process is completed.

No arrests have been made at this time, and the search for the perpetrators continues.
