The Cape of Good Hope SPCA is offering a R10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the person responsible for killing a dog found in a canal in Brown’s Farm in Philippi.

The brown and white pitbull-type dog named Grace by rescuers was discovered with a wire twisted tightly around her neck.   She was found barely alive in a litter-strewn canal, too weak to stand, with blood pooling in her nostrils.

SPCA Spokesperson Belinda Abraham stated that the severity of the dog’s injuries left no choice but to humanely euthanise her. Grace, who may have been known in the community by another name, was a medium-build female.

The decision to attach a significant financial reward to the case reflects the gravity with which the SPCA views this level of intentional harm. Abraham highlighted the premeditated nature of the act:

"What was done to this dog took a lot of time. Someone had to find the wire. They had to hold her still. They had to wind it around her neck once, and then—knowing what they had already done—they had to do it all over again."

SPCA inspectors are urging anyone who recognises this description or has information about a brown and white pitbull-type female last seen in the Brown’s Farm area to come forward.

The reward is payable specifically upon the arrest of a suspect. Information can be reported directly to the Cape of Good Hope SPCA.
