Traffic disruptions expected ahead of Soweto Derby

Several major roads around FNB Stadium in Nasrec will be closed from midday on Sunday ahead of the highly anticipated Soweto Derby.
Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates are set to face off in a match that has captured the nation's attention, with kickoff scheduled for 3:00 PM.
The Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) has confirmed that the following areas will be subject to traffic restrictions:
Soweto Highway: Between Mentz Street and the N1 North on-ramp.
Crownwood Road
Booysens Reserve
JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla has urged soccer fans to arrive early to avoid delays, noting that Nasrec Road will serve as the primary controlled access route to the stadium.
Officers will be deployed throughout the precinct to manage the flow of traffic and protect commuters. According to Fihla, “JMPD officers will be on-site to enforce traffic regulations and ensure the safety of both pedestrians and motorists. To avoid the precinct, motorists can use the M1, N1, and N12 highways, Main Reef Road, Crownwood Road, Aerodrome Road, and Adcock Ingram Avenue. We urge all road users to familiarise themselves with these measures and ensure parking is secured prior to arrival.”
To bypass the congestion, the JMPD suggests the following roads:
Highways: M1, N1, and N12
Arterial Roads: Main Reef Road, Aerodrome Road, and Adcock Ingram Avenue
