The City of Cape Town has appealed to residents and visitors to reduce non-essential water consumption following excessive water usage over the festive period.

Mayco member for Water and Sanitation Zahid Badroodien said that the city's daily target for water usage in the summer season has been exceeded. 

Badroodien said that adjusting water usage habits will help build resilience against climate related shocks and safeguard the cape town's water supply.

"We are appealing to our residents and visitors to please work with the city in order to use water sparingly."
