Close to 2,500 people affected by Dunoon fire

The City of Cape Town’s Disaster Risk Management Department says close to 2,500 people have been registered as effected by the Dunoon fire.

It says the figures aren't conclusive and the final count will be completed and registered on Monday.

It further confirmed that 589 structures were destroyed in the blaze that ripped through the informal settlement on Friday.

Department spokesperson Charlotte Powell has made an appeal for donations of non-perishable foods, person hygiene items and baby toiletries and formula.

"The City’s Solid Waste Department will remove debris from the fire site today. Their Water and Sanitation counterparts are working to restore damaged infrastructure. A reminder that donation drop off points are still active on a 24-hour basis at the following fire stations: Goodwood, Roeland Street, Lakeside, Constantia, Hout Bay, Strand, Wynberg and Milnerton."
