The Durban High Court will on Monday hear closing arguments in the murder of a former Richmond municipal manager in KwaZulu-Natal.
Sibusiso Sithole was shot and killed in March 2017 while heading to a council meeting.
The meeting was meant to look at issues of fraud and corruption under investigation in the municipality.
Sabelo Phewa was convicted of two murders after ballistic tests linked him to another hit in Hillcrest weeks earlier.
The KZN political killings task team was assigned the murder case of Sithole.
The squad of specialist investigators also linked Phewa to the murder of Amos Ngcobo.
Ngcobo was killed in Hillcrest in February the same year.
When ambushed and killed, Sithole was heading to a council meeting to discuss his fraud and corruption investigations at the municipality.
Richmond Mayor Melikhaya Ngcongo said they still want to know the motive for the hit.
"Right, that's what we are here for because we want to know what is it that transpired that led to such a brutal assassination of such a great man like Sibusiso Sithole."
Closing arguments are underway in the Durban High Court, with sentencing expected on Tuesday.
