JOHANNESBURG - Johannesburg ayor Dada Morero is expected to deliver his highly anticipated state of the city address on Wednesday.
His speech is expected to set the tone for improving service delivery in the metro, which is facing many challenges.
Pressure is mounting for him to sort out dysfunctional traffic lights, improve water supply and electricity, and fix potholes.
It's been almost a year since Morero was elected as Johannesburg mayor, but his time in office has been nothing short of turbulent.
Frequent water shortages have been a headache to his administration, while a new syndicate targeting traffic lights has also led to sleepless nights.
Rehabilitating the inner city is also likely to feature in his plans during his address.
Political analyst Levy Ndou said that Morero's success in office will be judged on whether or not he managed to tackle these issues head-on.
"The state of the city address comes at a time when ordinary residents are assessing the performance of the government because we are moving towards the 2026 local government elections. My expectations is that the state of the city address should be able to address issues that directly affect ordinary citizens. I expect them to deal with issues that relate to the cleanliness of the city. They must deal with the city that relate to how the are going to deal with the townships that don't have basic services," said Ndou.
He added that although Johannesburg is facing several challenges, it's important for Morero to highlight some of his key achievements.
