Mozambique's post-election violence in November saw the on-and-off closure of the Lebombo border.
South African authorities are concerned that the violence will return when Mozambique pronounces the final poll results on Monday following opposition party allegations of electoral fraud.
The BMA's Mmemme Mogotsi said the Mananga port is a critical route for the two countries.
"The Mananga port of entry has been identified as a critical diversion route for travellers to reach Mozambique in the event of potential disruptions to the Lebombo operations caused by the announcement of results by the Mozambican Constitutional Council on Monday." said Mogotsi.
