Over 1.1m apply for 200k teaching assistant jobs – Dept of Basic Education

The Department of Basic Education reports that it has already received over 1.1 million applications for the fifth phase of its Basic Education Employment Initiative (BEEI).
This phase has over 200,000 job opportunities available for unemployed youth (aged 18 to 34) in public schools across South Africa.
“By 6 pm last night (22 April), we had over 1.1 million applications and 222,000 unique applications, which means that people are really interested in applying.”

As part of the six-month contract, teacher assistants will receive training and a R4,000 monthly stipend.
