It was a big weekend for the Springboks Women and Men's teams, who both played New Zealand.
The Springboks Men bounced back brilliantly to beat New Zealand by 43-10 in Wellington on Saturday night to keep alive their chances in the Castle Lager Rugby Championship, while retaining the Freedom Cup by inflicting the biggest defeat ever on the All Blacks.
Meanwhile, the Springbok Women gave New Zealand a scare before succumbing to a 46-17 defeat to the defending champions in their Women’s Rugby World Cup quarter-final in Exeter on Saturday afternoon.
The Bok women, who were playing in their first RWC playoff, can hold their heads high after achieving their aim of reaching the quarter-finals. They fought hard until the final whistle blew.
"We reaffirmed our dominance against the All Blacks... It's our fifth win in our last six tests against New Zealand; last week was an outlier in Auckland. I believe the clock in New Zealand will be stuck on 10:43 for the rest of the week."

"For me, we were taking our chances better in the second half, being a bit more clinical and being a bit more patient... suddenly, we right the ship and right the wrongs that happened the previous week."

"One win by the Springboks and everything is okay in South Africa. In that regard, let's tell Rassie 'well done' for getting it right, but you've got to look at Damian Willemse and Siya again... people who were criticised all week and questioned... we were all part of that. When they lose like they did the previous week, then suddenly we look at them and say, 'Oh no, we must get rid of them', they're too old and then a week later, they win and we say, 'Oh no, they're good for another two World Cups.'"

On the Springboks Women, De Koning says they are 'building to something special'.
"We've achieved the same Ireland has achieved in all their World Cups; men and women. We've gone to the quarterfinals. Ireland has been to ten times the number of World Cups our women have been to, and they also just got stuck at the quarter finals, so our women are already as good as Ireland."

"I think the steady growth you see in the women's team... the way they held New Zealand in the first half shows the growth and innovation Swys has brought and the belief that he's brought. In the second half, you saw the difference in class, but still, those ladies kept on fighting..."
