While the body of former South African ambassador to France and Monaco, Nathi Mthethwa, is set to be brought back home this week, his family says it will only find closure once it knows the cause of his death.

Mthethwa, who was also a former police and the sport, arts and culture minister, died at a Paris hotel last Monday.

It is alleged that he died by suicide after jumping from the building; however, police investigations are still ongoing to determine the facts over the 58-year-old’s death.

At this stage, investigators from both South Africa and France have completed investigations on Ambassador Nathi Mthethwa’s body.

But the cause of his death remains a mystery to his family as they await a final report for closure.

Family spokesperson, Sifiso Buthelezi, was among those who identified his body in Paris last week.

"They are done with the autopsy. What we are expecting from the report, we want to find the scientific outcome of what happened. That is all we expect."

The South African government also sent out a team of investigators to France to thoroughly probe this death.

Meanwhile, the Mthethwa relatives in KwaMbonambi, in northern KwaZulu-Natal, said that proper plans for the burial would get underway as soon as the body was home.
