UJ confirms one of 3 killed in Braamfontein shooting a second-year student

The deceased student is one of three people who died during a shooting in Braamfontein on Thursday. The 18-year-old male was killed by a stray bullet.

JOHANNESBURG - The University of Johannesburg (UJ) has confirmed that one of its students was killed and another is in hospital after they were caught in the crossfire of a shooting in Braamfontein.

Two people were shot dead in broad daylight on Thursday while they were inside a car that was parked outside a student accommodation building.

The third victim - an 18-year-old male, killed by a stray bullet. He was a second-year student at the institution.

UJ said at the time of the shooting, its students were travelling in a bus from the university to their place of residence in the Joburg city centre. 

The motive for the shooting remains unclear, and no arrests have been made.
