Gauteng continues to have highest voting population in SA, says IEC

7 February 2024 | 7:24Almost seven million people in Gauteng registered to vote for the upcoming elections.
JOHANNESBURG - The Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) said Gauteng continued to have the highest voting population in the country, with close to seven million people registered to vote in the province.
The commission gave an update on Tuesday on its final voter registration drive over the past weekend.

To date, a total of 27.4 million people registered to vote for the upcoming elections.
Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, and Eastern Cape recorded the highest numbers of people registered to participate in the upcoming election.
The IEC said there was also an increase in the number of young people who registered to vote in these provinces.
Chief Electoral Officer, Sy Mamabolo, said this showed an interest by young people to participate in the upcoming elections.
Mamabolo said the commission was satisfied with the outcomes of the two registration drives that were held in November and over the past weekend.
