To date, a total of 27.4 million people registered to vote for the upcoming elections.

Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, and Eastern Cape recorded the highest numbers of people registered to participate in the upcoming election.

The IEC said there was also an increase in the number of young people who registered to vote in these provinces.

Chief Electoral Officer, Sy Mamabolo, said this showed an interest by young people to participate in the upcoming elections.

Mamabolo said the commission was satisfied with the outcomes of the two registration drives that were held in November and over the past weekend.
