Nollywood mourns actor John 'Mr Ibu' Okafor

After Okafar suffered a heart attack over the weekend, the National President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, Emeka Rollas Ejezie, took to social media to announce the news.

JOHANNESBURG - Popular Nollywood actor John Okafor passed away in Lagos on Saturday.

Okafor, popularly known as 'Mr Ibu' suffered a heart attack.

He was 62.

Taking to social media to announce the news, National President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, Emeka Rollas Ejezie said: "I announce with deep sense of grief that Mr. Ibu didn't make it."

The world first learned about the actor's health concerns in October 2023 after Okafar underwent five surgeries.

He made a lasting impression in the Nigerian film business with his great talent and unmatched comedic timing. 'Mr Ibu' 20 years ago, gave rise to his lifelong moniker.

Even today, many consider it to be among the best comedic performances by a Nigerian.

Following that success, he starred in over 200 Nollywood movies, including the 'Mr Ibu' sequels, 'Keziah' and '9 Wives'.
