Just in case you need a recap...

The iconic English boy band from back in the day,Take That was formed in Manchester in 1990.

The group currently consists of Gary Barlow, Howard Donald and Mark Owen but had originally included Jason Orange and Robbie Williams.

Take That recorded a number of smash hits - some broke records while others were award winning. One song in particular, "Back for Good" became a world hit wonder upon its release and remains ICONIC.

But where did it all start?

Before Barlow became an icon and had the likes of Elton John as his mentor, he started working at a bar at 11 years old where he used to sing.

His dad also brought the neighbours into his bedroom to perform for them and at the end of it, they would clap which left Barlow's dad with a life lesson for his son.

"My dad would say, if you can do that, you'll always have a job and so he took me to a working men's club where I sang over 11, 12 and 13 years old - where I played nights. I was having a great time, I just loved playing music so much. So, by the time I joined the band at 19, I've done thousands of gigs so I could help everybody else get up to speed and I was so glad having those years."

Take That "hysteria"...

Since the band gained momentum and epic success in the early 90s, Barlow mentions that they "didn't have much of a life" because being in the band was "all-consuming". So, they were glad to have had a bit of a break.

"Since the 90s hysteria peak, we didn't really have much of a life and so by the end of it, we kind of resented it a bit and it's been 150% all-consuming and we all just wanted a life."

"When we got back to together ten years later, we didn't expect that all the audience that was there to start with was still there, bringing some mates with them as well. Our audience just followed us around all over the world so faithfully and we're just so happy that even after all these years we're still able to go out and play tours."

The second act

Barlow says, as they graduate from a boy band to a man band, they enjoy the shows even more this time around and are surprised and grateful for the OG fans and new audiences that have followed them, despite their hiatus over the years.

"This second period, we enjoy a lot more now and these shows are more important than they've ever been."

Foes turned friends...

Barlow's public feud with fellow band mate Robbie Williams is squashed like the veggie!

"We've had our moments in time where we weren't talking to each other. Luckily for us, the story had a happy ending because we all did a record together in 2010 and went on tour together... and I speak to him most days... these are the best people you're ever going to meet, they've been my brothers since 1990, I've known them longer than I've known my wife."

Gary Barlow loves Cape Town and her people!

Barlow mentions that he loves the The Mother City and its wines. Barlow has his own brand of organic, sustainable and affordable wine with grapes imported from you guessed it, Cape Town which has sold its millionth bottle recently - so, of course, Barlow loves Cape Town.!

"We love it here. Great food. Sunshine. And people who actually want you to be in their country (we live next to France) - so, it's beautiful for us to come here."
- Gary Barlow, Take That

As for the Cape Town tour, Barlow and the band can't wait to perform for you!

If you missed the news, Take That heads to Cape Town on 22 October at Grand Arena, GrandWest at 8pm.

"We're just having the best time singing songs, touring around the world and that's our life at the moment. Please come!"
- Gary Barlow, Take That
