CAPE TOWN - The City of Cape Town is calling on parents to be vigilant while visiting beaches and recreational centres with children over the Easter holidays.

The metro said although it had safety measures on beaches in place, parents and caregivers need to take responsibility by ensuring they are aware of their children's whereabouts at all times.

The city is also calling on beachgoers to obey the directives of safety officials deployed at recreational centres.

Cape Town MMC for community services and health, Patricia Van Der Ross said: "The weather forecast promises some sunny days and our beaches and pools will have their fair share of visitors. So, I want to encourage all parents and caregivers to please be near their children at all times, especially where they are near any body of water."
