10 April 2024 | 11:35The SANBS and The WCBS are teaming up to host the first-ever 1 Day – 1 Nation Blood campaign aimed at collecting 5000 units of blood in just one day.
The South African National Blood Service (SANBS), together with the Western Cape Blood Service (WCBS), will host their first, 1 Day – 1 Nation – 5000 Units of Blood activation campaign to collect 5000 units of blood on Saturday, 13 April 2024.
We are very excited to host the first 1 Day – 1 Nation – 5000 Units of Blood campaign. We hope that all South Africans who are eligible to donate blood will support us on this day - Marike Carli, Public Relations Manager, WCBS
Both blood services anticipate blood stock shortages leading up to the winter months. Blood stock levels tend to start steadily declining from the Easter period, leading up to the colder winter months. Ramadan started on the 11th of March, which also adds additional pressure to the blood stock levels as Muslim donors can’t donate during the fast.
Right now, we need all the help we can get – from current and potential donors. Moreover, we ask South Africans to become regular donors. By donating blood regularly, we can easily maintain safe stock levels throughout the year. - Thandi Mosupye, Senior Manager: Marketing, Communication and Brand, SANBS.
