Dr Sam Motsuenyane, who co-founded the National African Federated Chamber of Commerce in 1964 died, on Monday at 97 years old.

JOHANNESBURG - President Cyril Ramphosa said he was saddened by the passing of black-business pioneer, Dr Sam Motsuenyane.

Motsuenyane died on Monday at the age of 97.

He co-founded the National African Federated Chamber of Commerce in 1964, which has been described as the largest African business organisation.

Motsuenyane was a member of the National Order of the Baobab in recognition of his significant personal achievements, including being part of the establishment of African Bank.

He served as a member of Parliament (MP) and as South Africa's first ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
