DURBAN - The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF)’s chairperson in KwaZulu-Natal, Mongezi Twala, has told Eyewitness News their campaign is going well, despite a few hiccups across some regions in the province.
The EFF is the fourth largest party in KZN, having secured more than 300,000 votes in 2019.
It’s now hoping to treble that number when the country votes in just a few weeks’ time.
While the fighters have previously enjoyed kingmaker status, they now have to battle the Patriotic Alliance (PA), and former president Jacob Zuma’s new outfit uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party for that role.
Recent by-elections show the MK Party is taking support from several of the established parties in KZN.
Twala, however, claims the red berets aren't fazed by this.
“We are yet to see, even one member leaving and joining the MK. Even at branch level, we are yet to be given, just one member that has left the EFF, we can’t trace any of them. We are enjoying hegemony everywhere in the province of KwaZulu-Natal.”
