In 2018, Constable was arrested and charged with fraud and theft relating to the hijacking of buildings in Joburg’s inner city.
Constable was shot and killed inside a spaza shop on the corner of Melle and Stiemens in Braamfontein on Monday night.
Preliminary information from the scene indicates that an unknown number of suspects followed Constable into the store and shot him before fleeing the scene in a vehicle.
In recent years, Constable made headlines for all the wrong reasons following his arrest in 2018, alongside two others, for the alleged involvement in building hijackings within the inner city.
It is understood the charges against Constable and his co-accused never stuck and he was eventually released.
Constable was believed to be a career conman, having previously posed as an official from home affairs and even a pilot.
He spearheaded an unregistered union, the National Immigrants Council of South Africa, allegedly used to investigate corruption and the hijacking of buildings.
However, sources claim this was a front for Constable to solicit money from immigrants and charge them protection fees.
