MIDRAND - It's a mixed bag of emotions at the IEC's national results operation centre in Midrand as the clock winds down on election day. 

The IEC is expected to hold a media amid growing concerns about the technical setbacks at the voting stations.

The leadership board really still is a blank canvas, with all 54 parties still at zero, starting with the ACC at the very top all the way down. 

And because the polling stations are still open, we don't expect to see any changes to the leadership board until the early hours of the morning. 

Leaders of some political parties have started to gather at the centre.

The ANC's first deputy secretary-general, Nomvuka Mokonyane is at the party’s station as well as Freedom Front Plus MP, Wouter Wessels.

Other political party leaders have also said that they're excited, nervous, anxious and relieved, all in the same breath.
